Astana is hosting the international exhibition of nuclear technologies KazAtomExpo, which brings together leading global and Kazakh experts, representatives of the nuclear industry, government agencies, and the scientific and business communities. Participants gathered to discuss current issues in the development of the nuclear industry and demonstrate latest achievements in this area.
Key companies of the Kazakh nuclear industry, such as National Atomic Company “Kazatomprom” JSC, Institute of Nuclear Physics, National Nuclear Center, Nuclear Technologies Park JSC and others presented their expositions at the exhibition.
Kazatomprom’s stand provided information about the company’s activities, including mining and processing of natural uranium, production of fuel assemblies, as well as development of science, nuclear fuel cycle and rare and rare-earth metals.
As part of the exhibition, plenary sessions were held with the participation of leading world and Kazakhstan experts and scientists. Prospects for the development of nuclear energy in Kazakhstan, issues of safety and reliability of the nuclear industry, as well as international cooperation in this area were topics of discussion.
“Kazatomprom is the largest producer of natural uranium with priority access to one of the world’s largest resource bases. The reserves of the company estimated at 301 thousand tonnes of uranium are distributed across 14 mining operations, 12 of which are joint ventures with the largest in the world participants in uranium industry. Fostering international cooperation allows us not only to expand our global presence and diversify the company’s customer base, but also to strengthen Kazakhstan’s strategic position in the global uranium market”, said Dastan Kosherbayev, Chief Strategy and International Development Officer of NAC Kazatomprom JSC.
n 2021, Kazatomprom and China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) implemented a project to fabricate fuel assemblies (FA) using technology of Framatome. The production of fuel assemblies is carried out by Ulba-FA LLP, located in the territory of Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC, a 100% subsidiary of Kazatomprom. Thus, Kazakhstan operates a domestic high-tech production of fuel assemblies for nuclear power plants.
Hosting KazAtomExpo, an international exhibition of nuclear technologies in Kazakhstan confirms the country’s status as one of the world leaders in this area.
