Sean was appointed as senior vice-president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary of Cameco on April 1, 2014. He first joined Cameco’s legal department in 1993, becoming vice- president, law and general counsel in 2004.
Sean has been actively involved in Cameco’s major transactions, including:
- the acquisition of ISR uranium mining operations in the US;
- the acquisition of Uranerz Exploration and Mining Limited in 1998;
- the formation, establishment and reorganization in 2018 of JV Inkai, the entity that holds Cameco’s Kazakh uranium mining assets;
- the negotiation and management of Cameco’s participation in the highly-enriched uranium agreement…
- Cameco’s original acquisition of an interest in Bruce Power L.P., the reorganization of Bruce Power upon the insolvency of British Energy, and Cameco’s eventual exit from Bruce Power;
- the spinoff and ultimate divestiture in 2010 of Cameco’s interest in Centerra Gold;
- the acquisition of the Kintyre and Yeelirrie uranium deposits in Australia;
- the acquisition of NUKEM GmbH in 2014; and
- the acquisition of a 49% interest in Westinghouse Electric Company in conjunction with Brookfield Renewable Resources in 2023.
Sean is the secretary to Cameco’s board of directors and oversees the board’s activities. In addition, Sean served on the board of directors for Bruce Power from 2007 through 2014 and the Supervisory Board of JV Inkai for a number of years, and currently sits on the board of Westinghouse Electric Company, all as a representative of Cameco.
Sean has also managed significant litigation and arbitrations on behalf of Cameco, including Cameco’s successful appeal of transfer pricing reassessments issued by Canada Revenue Agency for 2003-2006.
In addition to being chief legal officer and board secretary, Sean has responsibility for Cameco’s corporate development, exploration and SHEQ groups, and for overseeing Cameco’s investment in JV Inkai.
