Michael has more than forty years of mining sector experience across North and South America, Europe & Central Asia, Africa, South Asia, and East Asia / Pacific regions. He assists governments in strengthening institutional governance for a strong, competitive and predictable mining sector, contributions that have catalyzed billions of dollars of public / private investment. His core expertise includes policy and regulatory reforms, partnerships for mining-related infrastructure, and catalyzing resilient mineral supply chains for economic growth. Additionally, Michael leads the World Bank’s global Just Coal Transition mining initiative.
Michael has a Bachelor of Science in Geology, Master of Science in Mining Exploration and Development, and Doctorate in Mineral Resource Economics / Mining Engineering. He is a frequent speaker in global forums and is co-editor of the World Bank’s Extractive Industries Source Book, first-edition print version (2018). Michael is a dual American / Canadian citizen based in Asia.
