National Atomic Company “Kazatomprom” JSC and TajRedMet signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding cooperation in the field of mining and processing of uranium, rare and rare-earth metals (“RM” and “REM”) on 22 August 2024, during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Republic of Tajikistan.
The memorandum provides for a strategic partnership, which could become an important stage in the development of the mining industry in both countries. The companies plan to work together to implement their initiatives, including exploration, mining and processing of uranium and other RM and REM, carrying out research and development work, introducing innovative technologies, as well as personnel training.
“This step is of great importance for strengthening the partnership between our companies. Although it is too early to talk about specific results, we are focused on promising joint projects in the uranium industry, as well as rare and rare-earth metals, which can bring significant benefits to both Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. We hope that this memorandum will become the basis for long-term and productive cooperation, promoting economic growth and the development of high technologies in both countries,” emphasized Meirzhan Yussupov, CEO of Kazatomprom.
In the near future, TajRedMet representatives intend to make a return visit to Kazakhstan to familiarise themselves with the production facilities of Kazatomprom, which is expected to be an important step in the implementation of joint projects and will allow both parties to assess in more detail the potential for further cooperation.
