The National Geological Survey of Kazakhstan (NGS) continues to develop international cooperation. Representatives of the British National Geological Survey (BGS) visited the company’s office to assist in the creation of a unified system for storing and managing geological data. In addition, BGS intends to help in the development of digital geological maps – modern maps that will display up-to-date information about the geological structure of Kazakhstan.
For several days, introductory meetings with specialists were held for the guests, including at the branch of the NGS – the Central Geological Service. As a result of these meetings, the scope of work on the joint project was determined.
The project is designed for three years and includes the following stages:
- First year: Conducting an in-depth analysis of the existing data management system, developing a roadmap for the digital transformation of the NHS, creating prototypes of a database and metadata catalog, as well as training NHS staff.
- Second and third years: Development and implementation of a full-scale data management system, including the creation of digital maps, data analysis tools and an online portal for access to information.
It is expected that cooperation between the geological services of the two countries will improve the efficiency of geological data management, provide analytical tools for assessing the potential of deposits and developing optimal mining strategies in the field of subsurface use, increase transparency and accessibility of information, which will make Kazakhstan more attractive to investors, increase the efficiency of mining and the development of related industries, which will lead to the creation of new jobs.
Kazakhstan has rich natural resources, but the management of geological data in the country needs to be modernized. The lack of a unified data storage and access system makes it difficult to analyze, plan and make decisions in the field of subsoil use.
The BGS and NGS project is an important step towards the digital transformation of geological data in Kazakhstan. It will improve the efficiency of resource management, attract investment and stimulate economic growth. The successful implementation of the project will contribute to the sustainable development of the mining industry and provide Kazakhstan with a leading position in the field of geological research.
